Project Summary for 2002-LT-BX-K007
This project will focus on the continued development, testing, and validation of an automated method for extraction of handwriting characteristics (features) and the associated statistical procedures used when examining questioned documents. Under a previous NIJ award, the awardee developed computer algorithms for 11 of the 21 features commonly used by forensic document examiners (FDEs). The current project will expand that set to encompass a greater number of these features. These automated methods for handwriting examinations will increase the objectivity and reliability of handwriting examinations.
