Project summary for 2001-MU-MU-K004 (S-1)

The goal of this project is to bridge the gap between the technology of the forensic lab and the officer in the filed. The funds of this grant is to use these funds to upgrade many of Southeast Missouri's crime lab (SEMO) capabilities. This project will be housed within the current crime laboratory space with the expectation of renovating space. The backup power and security system equipment will allow the laboratory to maintain a stable and secure environment for lab operations. The Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is designed to improve SEMO'S tracking of evidence. The computers, software, camera, photographic/darkroom equipment and instructional television system will improve SEMO's ability to record images of evidence for long-term retention. The purchase of a gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer and a pyrolysis unit will allow the crime lab to replace outdated equipment. All of these items will enhance the capability of the crime lab to evaluate evidence more quickly, thereby helping the criminal justice system process cases more accurately and efficiently.
