Description of original award (Fiscal Year 1996, $99,605)

This is a continuation of a project, which examines the suitability of the Vulnerability Assessment process used by Sandia National Laboratories for application in a correctional environment. Working collaboratively with the Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), the ACA will conduct two training workshops that specifically targets security personnel that are presently working in maximum and/or super-maximum security facilities located throughout the United States. Workshop participants will learn to apply the security audit protocols that include an analysis of potential threats, both external and internal. From the workshop participants, at least three individuals will be selected to conduct field-testing of the application of the protocols to their own unique environment. Security consultants will review each application through an on-site evaluation and at the conclusion of the reviews, make appropriate adjustments to the protocols. Upon conclusion of the final revisions to the security protocols, a printed and electronic version of the protocols will be designed, produced and made available to those designated by the program manager of NIJ.
