Kelly Socia (2010 Fellow) is an assistant professor in the School of Criminology and Justice Studies at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. His research interests include the re-entry and recidivism of persons convicted of a crime who have completed any court-ordered punishment, persons who have been registered for sex offenses, public policymaking and spatial analyses. He received both his M.A. and Ph.D. in criminal justice from the School of Criminal Justice at the State University of New York, Albany. The GRF program was an amazing opportunity that gave me the ability to focus on my dissertation research, he says. As a result, I was better able to use my dissertation as a starting point for my research agenda as a tenure-track faculty member.
