Jennifer Cobbina (2008 Fellow) is an assistant professor in the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University, where she focuses on the issue of re-entry and the understanding of recidivism and desistance among recently released females. Included in this area of research are the study of the best predictors of female offending and recidivism, the factors that shape long-term post-release success and desistance from crime among formerly incarcerated females, and women's perceptions of the effects of incarceration on their lives and reintegration. The GRF provided me with the funding needed to collect my own data on incarcerated and paroled women, allowed me to focus all my time on finishing my dissertation, and opened up professional opportunities in my academic career, she says.
