Abstract
This spring 2011 issue of TechBeat discusses Field Search, a suite of software products for use in the field by criminal justice professionals who are not well trained in the field of computer forensics. The software was developed by the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLECTC) for use by probation and parole officers to assist with the management of sex offenders. Since the software’s launch, other criminal justice professionals have found that it is useful and effective when examining computers for evidence of other crimes. Training in the use of this software is offered by law enforcement personnel who have been certified through the Corrections Technology Center of Excellence’s CFSI (Certified Field Search Instructor) training course. The success of the software lies in its ease of use out in the field.
