Abstract

For the 2011 model year evaluation of police vehicles, the Michigan State Police Vehicle Test Team tested 10 vehicles and 4 motorcycles: the Ford Police Interceptor (3.27:1) 4.6L; the Ford Police Interceptor (3.55:1) 4.6L; the Chevrolet Caprice 9C1 6.0L; the Chevrolet Caprice 9C1 E85 6.0L; the Chevrolet Impala 9C1 3.9L; the Chevrolet Impala 9C1 E85 3.9L; the Chevrolet Tahoe PPV 2WD 5.3L; the Chevrolet Tahoe PPV 2WD E85 5.3L; the Dodge Charger 3.6L; the Dodge Charger 5.7L; the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide FLHTP; the Harley Davidson Road King FLHP; the BMW R 1200 RTP; and the Kawasaki Concours 14 ABS P. Certain standards were adhered to for the vehicles: all cars were tested with a clean roof and without "A" pillar mount spotlights, and each vehicle was tested with the tires that are available as original equipment on the production model. The motorcycles were tested with equipment installed as provided by their manufacturer. The report includes the following information for the police vehicles: description of the test equipment; police package vehicle descriptions; results of competitive evaluation vehicle dynamics testing; results of acceleration, top speed, and brake testing; results of the ergonomics and communications evaluations; and results of fuel economy testing. The performance data, descriptions, and photographs for the police motorcycles are included in a separate section.
