This LEADS Digest is a collection of five papers written by participants in NIJ's Law Enforcement Advancing Data and Science (LEADS) Scholars program. Established in 2014 through a partnership between NIJ and the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the program develops the research capacity of mid-career law enforcement personnel who are committed to advancing and integrating science into law enforcement policies and practice. Each of the five LEADS scholars represented in this digest have identified an issue relevant to their departments from traffic crashes to management practices and examined the issue from an evidence-based perspective. In addition to surveying the scientific literature, some of the authors have proposed and implemented their own experimental trials to test hypotheses, gather data, and move closer to solutions.
