The proposed dissertation research seeks to study the influence of police policy, procedures, and organizational factors on how police investigators engage with victims. The project proposes in-depth, qualitative case studies of police agencies in Arizona and Nevada. Thematic analysis will be conducted on transcripts of 40 semi-structured interviews with police officers in Arizona and Nevada. Interview recruitment will occur through snowball sampling of rural, urban, and suburban agencies. This will be augmented by a content analysis of agency policies and procedures, training curriculum, and other relevant public records. The study will conclude with a comparative analysis of Arizona and Nevada to assess the influence of the police organization on officer response to victims.
