Optimizing Bone Loss Across the Lifespan: The Three-Dimensional Structure of Porosity in the Human Femoral Neck and Rib As a Metric of Bone Fragility

Current understanding of how aging changes the structure of human bones is less than perfect. This has import for forensic determination regarding whether a broken bone was accidental or non-accidental as well as the determination when that break occurred. To address this gap in knowledge, the applicant proposes to study an adult age series of human femoral neck and fourth ribs from a sample of sixteen male and female cadavers using high-resolution micro computed tomographic imaging.
