National Juvenile Justice Data Analysis Program

This project contains a research and/or development component, as defined in applicable law. The National Juvenile Justice Data Analysis Program furthers the Department's mission by establishing a central, primary source of statistical data and analyses that informs the juvenile justice field and the public concerning critical issues. This program is designed to create a strong data infrastructure that supports a wide range of needs and disseminates information in a variety of formats. The proposed project will address OJJDPs information needs, taking advantage of existing databases to produce empirical information on a range of topics and disseminating this information to diverse audiences in a variety of formats. To this end, the National Center for Juvenile Justice will:
1. Maintain the Statistical Briefing Bookupdate/expand the Statistical Briefing Book (SBB) and its Easy Access family of data analysis tools, and develop new FAQs and data analysis tools in consultation with OJJDP;
2. Develop recommendations to re-envision OJJDPs web presence regarding statistical information;
3. Develop recommendations of data sets for use in static and interactive data visualizations;
4. Prepare publications, including OJJDP bulletins and web-based data briefs;
5. Develop recommendations to increase the accessibility and utility of OJJDPs statistical information;
6. Promote the project through conference presentations and the development of web-based resources;
7. Identify and develop display options and products to more prominently feature OJJDPs most commonly requested and accessed statistical information;
8. Respond to OJJDP and non-OJJDP information requests;
9. Consult with OJJDP on data collection, management, and use; and
10. Support targeted activities for disseminating OJJDP recommendations for state and local juvenile justice data improvements.
