Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2015, $338,322)
The Arkansas State Crime Laboratory is committed to supplying the necessary infrastructure to process the required samples. The Arkansas State Crime Laboratory currently processes an average of 800 convicted and arrestee samples a month in the CODIS section. The CODIS section contains the infrastructure (instruments and personnel) to process the additional samples that are expected due to the expanded legislation.
The funds from this solicitation are necessary to be able to supply the law enforcement agencies with the required kits to collect arrestee sample in accordance with the expanded legislation and to supply the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory with the necessary amplification kits required to process the arrestee samples in accordance with laboratory standards. Without the funding the collecting agencies will not have the supplies to collect properly. This will result in them sending in samples of either non-sterile or cotton swabs. The CODIS samples ability to process the additional samples relies on the ability to process the samples efficiently, which requires the samples to be collected on Bode DNA Collectors. Without the funding the samples will not be able to be processed by the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory due to the limited quantity of PowerPlex 16HS kits available. The funding from this solicitation is critical for the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to process the additional samples that will be submitted from the expanded arrestee legislation and to not create a backlog of arrestee samples.
