Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2014, $246,814)
The goals of the Cobb County Cold Case Unit are to perform case review of the 400 cold cases previously identified and prioritize those cases that have the potential to be solved using DNA analysis in order to determine if such analysis would assist in solving the case; to locate, identify, retrieve and evaluate biological evidence from such cases that may reasonably be expected to contain DNA; and to facilitate the performance of DNA analysis on such biological evidence, in an effort to effect justice for victims and accountability for perpetrators in these unsolved cases. The Unit will achieve these goals by adhering to already established protocol to identify, collect, reconstruct, review, interview, and investigate cold cases to include physical evidence, for the purpose of solving and prosecuting those cases.
