Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $500,000)
The applicant proposes to develop a combined sensor and alerting device that will mount on the roof of a patrol car. The device will use an optical scanner and computer to identify vehicles that are approaching on a collision course. It will then use a laser to project visual cues into the path of the oncoming vehicle alerting its driver that they are on a collision course with a stopped patrol car. If the oncoming vehicle ignores the laser alert, an audible alarm will be sounded alerting the dismounted officer of the danger.
