Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $2,239,121)

The California Innocence Project (CIP), a law school program of California Western School of Law, and the Northern California Innocence Project (NCIP), a program of Santa Clara University, help innocent individuals that are wrongfully incarcerated in the State of California by providing a resource to advance their claims of innocence. At CIP and NCIP, law students work with criminal defense lawyers to help seek the release of wrongfully convicted prisoners in California. The two California Innocence Projects (CA-IPs) receive a combined 1,000-2,000 requests for inmate assistance each year. ca/ncf
