Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $500,000)
The Regional DNA Laboratory project will be established using state of the art technologies and meeting prevailing quality control and operational guidelines necessary to gain full certification as a law enforcement DNA Laboratory. The ultimate goal is the establishment of a regional laboratory capable of processing 1,200 or more DNA samples per fiscal year. The target population to be served consists primarily of the cities of Glendale, Burbank, and Pasadena, which have a population of approximately 500,000 full time residents. The tri-cities are estimated to have a day-time population well in excess of 1,000,000 with their commerce.
