Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $460,473)
The goal of this project is to develop new pattern recognition techniques for searching infrared (IR) spectral libraries of the Paint Data Query (PDQ) automotive paint database. These search techniques will be used to differentiate between similar but non-identical Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) paint spectra, and to determine the model, manufacturer, and year of the vehicle from which an unknown paint sample originated.
