This application requests additional funding to employ a third Cold Case Analyst. The goal of this enhanced funding request is to facilitate the expedited and complete review of the remaining large number of unsolved violent crime cold cases with evidence in Jackson County, Missouri (1,748 cases) before previous grant funding is no longer available. This large number of cases with testable evidence was discovered in the summer of 2009 at the conclusion of a cold case evidence inventory at the Kansas City Police Crime Laboratory. The grant-funded employees of the Prosecutor's Office Cold Case Unit (POCCU) will consist of a Project Manager, three Cold Case Analysts, a Cold Case Investigator, and a Cold Case Paralegal. The ultimate goal of this project is to increase the number of violent cold case offenders who are identified through DNA evidence and held accountable for their crimes. ca/ncf
