Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $2,808,508)
Funding from this solicitation will allow UNTCHI to continue its mission and provide for the analysis of at least of 750 unidentified person samples and 1,800 family reference samples. A portion of the funds will be used to continue field testing of new technologies designed to increase the amount of genetic information obtainable from human remains. To date UNTCHI has received approximately 2,500 unidentified human decedent samples, approximately 5,300 family reference samples and 173 direct reference samples. UNTCHI has been responsible for 457 associations that have resulted in identifications, i.e., 115 DNA confirmations for Medical Examiners/Coroners, 274 DNA
The University Of North Texas Center for Human Identification Funding Opportunity SL# 000934 associations supporting a prior investigative lead, and 66 "cold hits" only possible through the utilization of the CODIS Missing Person Databases.
