Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $490,960)
Virginia Department of Forensic Science (DFS) will utilize funding acquired through this grant to defray costs associated with cold case DNA testing. A mandate, issued by former Governor Mark Warner, requires the Department to reviewed case files dating from 1973-1988 that had serological evidence contained within them. Focus of this mandate was for post conviction DNA testing; however, cases were also identified without suspects. It is estimated that this funding will allow for DNA testing on approximately 120 cold cases. ca/ncf
