Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $500,000)
The purpose of these funds will be used to review unsolved cold case files for potential biological evidence. Develop efficient procedures for reviewing and collecting trace evidence in cold cases for DNA analysis. Test evidence for DNA in cold cases previously not suitable for DNA analysis. Submit all UCR Part 1 unsolved homicide cold cases with eligible DNA analyses for inclusion in CODIS. Actively conduct follow-up investigation of suspects identified by DNA analysis and, when applicable, submit completed investigations to the State's Attorney's Office (SAO) for prosecution. All proposed activities fall within the three permissible categories of activities as set forth in the solicitation.
