Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $407,075)
The California Department of Justice Missing Persons DNA Program (MPDP) faces a significant backlog of more than 500 unidentified persons cases, most of which consist of skeletal remains. The approach of the project is to outsource 100 cases of skeletal remains to an accredited, private forensic DNA testing laboratory or laboratories. The results of the DNA analysis will be reviewed by staff in the MPDP and the resultant STR and mtDNA profiles entered into the CODIS+Mito database in order to assist with missing persons investigations.
