Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $347,625)

The purpose of this project is to develop a standardized animal model of EMI-induced malignant hyperthermia (MHT) by administering drugs known to increase temperature along with EMI stimuli sufficient to precipitate MHT. This project will include analysis of the pathophysiology associated with EMI-induced MHT and an analysis of histopathological changes in tissue damaged by EMI-induced MHT. It will lead to the development of safer, more effective conducted energy devices for law enforcement application.
