Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $79,368)
The Urban Institute proposes to build upon previous NIJ research into faith-based corrections that identified 150 programs. UI will compile a comprehensive "Scan of Practice" that provides a portrait of current practices in faith-based corrections-oriented programming including detailed information about core services, curricula or models used, program objectives, corrections orientation, spiritual elements, target population, and outcomes. Typologies of key program characteristics including measures of religiosity will be developed using data collected from a brief self-administered survey of programs from various faith traditions and from phone interviews with program staff. A logic model framework will be used to construct these program typologies and map the link between faith, activities, and outcomes.
