COMPACT, LOW-COST BODY CAVITY SCREENING DEVICE

This Phase II effort will continue the development of a pre-production prototype of a compact, low-cost instrument to screen persons for metallic and non-metallic contraband concealed in body cavities and demonstrate the practical utility of using a compact array of capacitive transducers in a portable configuration to detect contraband with high probability of detection and low false alarm rate. Specific goals include extending the model to complete a full design of the prototype instrument's sensor configuration. The modeling will include effects of subject motion and yield an array design that meets detection specifications in a robust, practical configuration.

This award will provde funding for Quantum Magnetics to continue development of a compact, low-cost instrument to screen persons for metallic and non-metallic contraband concealed in body cavities. The sensor will use electromagnetic tomography methods, and will increase the ability of corrections officers to detect and exclude contraband from correctional facilities.
