Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $20,000)
The process of qualitative friction ridge analysis includes examination of minutiae shape, dots, incipient ridges, local ridge quality, and ridge tracing commonly referred to as third-level detail. The goal of this research is to develop automatic fingerprint matching algorithms to discriminate third-level friction ridge features such as pores, ridges, contours, dots and incipient ridges, minutiae shape and salient ridge tracing. This final deliverable will provide data related to the statistical properties of extended features as well as empirically demonstrate the performance gain by introducing extended features in automatic systems.
