This application encompasses three separate technology projects that will be created to benefit law enforcement agencies and criminal justice organizations in the state of West Virginia with the promise of future national applicability. 'Demonstrating and Optimizing Distributed Network Technology for Large-Scale Code Breaking: Building a DNA Silo Project in West Virginia' is designed to increase law enforcement's ability to process encrypted evidence based on the latest research of use of this technology for criminal purposes. 'WiMAX Communications Technology' is designed to validate the utility and implementation of wireless technology, based on IEEE 802.16 standards, for use as a communications platform on which other broad spectrum communications can be built, specifically focused on the needs of law enforcement officials and other 'first responder' personnel. The third project, 'Defense Against Improvised Explosive Devices' is designed to address the need for small, technologically enhanced, low-cost robots, capable of performing numerous functions, for use by law enforcement, SWAT, and other first responder personnel.
