Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $32,015)
These funds to Florida Gulf Coast University are for the creation of technical data on electrical and chemical flare systems for use by law enforcement agencies around the country. Various commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) chemical and electrical flare systems will be field-tested using scientific field trials so as to enable the generation of a comparison guide of the features, costs, benefits, strengths and shortcomings of these systems. The final product, a comparison guide, will allow more informed decision-making in procurement of flare and other highway signaling devices for procurement personnel and chief law enforcement officers.
