These funds to Elchemy, Inc. will launch an initiative to address the problem of identity theft crime as it affects law enforcement's ability to manage the complaints, investigation and eventual prosecution of Internet-related identity theft (ID theft). This project involves the processing, presentation and geospatial analysis of Internet-related ID theft to develop software that local, State, and Federal law enforcement personnel can use to extract hidden data from images stored on a computer hard drive or other digital media. The data to be extracted has to have been hidden using a steganography program. The long-term objective is to develop a tool that is able to extract data that has been hidden using any one of a wide variety of commercial and publicly available steganography programs.
