A Comparison of Imputation Methodologies in the Offenses-Known Uniform Crime Reports

This dissertation project will explore different methods of imputing missing crime data in the Uniform Crime Reports (UCR). Efforts will be directed toward developing an approach that is more accurate and reliable than the method now used by the FBI. The applicant anticipates that the current method, which is based on data from the same year as the missing data and the crime rates of similar jurisdictions, may not provide as good an estimate as a longitudinally based method, which bases the estimate on the jurisdiction's own reporting history.
