Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $2,483,750)

The Law Enforcement Technology Program is a 3-year project initially funded by the Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, designed to promote interoperability among law enforcement agencies in a 42-county service region of Southern and Eastern Kentucky by providing state of the art communications technology that will lead to and support the construction of a mobile data communications network. In order to do so, there must be a means of communication. The building out of the wireless data network is essential in meeting this communication need. Funds will be used to support the development and subsequent build out of this wireless data network for use by law enforcement agencies as prefaced above. In addition, this funding will support the enforcement, treatment, and education efforts of UNITE (Unlawful Narcotics Investigations, Treatment and Education) Program, combating the abuse of narcotics in The Center's service region, as previously described.
