Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $246,807)

The purpose of this proposal is to continue the work of the Western Forensic and Law Enforcement Training Center (WFLETC). This work includes casework in explosives analysis, fire debris analysis, soil analysis and other forms of trace evidence analysis. Case work in the area of trace analysis, especially explosives is being done to supplement the already overburdened Federal laboratory systems. This facility is not designed to replace these laboratories, but rather to supplement them with another lab that could do the types of cases that they normally would not be involved with. The Center will continue to act as an analysis location for the simpler, more mundane types of analysis that the Federal laboratories do not have time to do or do not meet their submission requirements. These analyses are being done at no cost to agencies within the state of Colorado. nca/ncf
