National Institute of Justice Continuation Awards

The Capital Wireless Integrated Network (Cap WIN) is the first multi-state integrated wireless public safety and transportation network that will provide interoperability between Law Enforcement, Fire/EMS and transportation agencies in the Washington, DC metropolitan area (Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia). The initial goals are to provide data access to those agencies that establish a permanent integrated network capability enabling multiple agencies and units to communicate directly and access information in real time. This will be of particular use not only in critical incident management buy day-to-day operations as well. Because of this, the CapWIN project planners have created a communication interoperability project that will be viewed as a national model. Responding to school security incidents will be greatly improved by this system, as agencies will be able to communicate immediately.
