PROJECT SUMMARY FOR 96-IJ-CX-0053
This award supplements a longitudinal study of approximately 1,000 or more New York City police officers who have been dismissed or forced to resign, or who have resigned because of corruption or brutality during the 22 years from 1975-1996. Using richly detailed official records, the proposed research will compare those officers to a stratified random sample of their colleagues in order to determine whether they may differ on a variety of individual, organizational and community characteristics. The supplement will be used to expand the sample from 1,000 to approximately 2,000 officers, including officers dismissed for reasons other than corruption or brutality (e.g., failed drug tests, arrests for non-job related crimes against persons, arrests for non-job related vehicular violations, etc.).
