Figure 1: Estimates of Lifetime Interracial and Intraracial Violence
Figure 1 shows the percentages of American Indian and Alaska Native victims who have experienced violence by a perpetrator who was not American Indian or Alaska Native (interracial) and by an American Indian or Alaska Native perpetrator (intraracial).
The majority of American Indian and Alaska Native victims have experienced violence at the hands of at least one interracial perpetrator in their lifetime — 97 percent of female victims and 90 percent of male victims. Fewer American Indian and Alaska Native victims have experienced intraracial violence in their lifetime — 35 percent of female victims and 33 percent of male victims.
