Abstract
"Program Takes Multifaceted Approach to Active Shooter Training" describes the "First 12 Minutes," a multifaceted training program developed by the City of Falls Church, Va. It provides training to school administrators, teachers, and school staff regarding what to do in various circumstances in the first few minutes of an active- shooter incident. The training takes 3 hours and is provided free to participating schools. "Emerging Forensic Research Series Promotes Sharing Ideas" describes how the Forensic Technology Center of Excellence (FTCoE) - a component of the National Institute of justice's (NIJ's) National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLETC) System - shares the nature and potential criminal-justice benefits of emerging technology. It features a description of FTCoE's new Emerging Forensic Research Webinar Series. It starts with a webinar on Firearm and Toolmark Research in February 2019. The "Updated AMBER Alert Best Practices Guide" provides updated guidelines that assist states and AMBER Alert regional offices recover abducted children through America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response (AMBER) Alerts. "Reports on Improving Safety and Wellness of the Nation's 800,000 Law Enforcement Officers" presents summaries of two new complementary reports recently available that focus on the mental health and safety of the nation's federal, state, local, and tribal police officers. This issue also contains a section on "Public Safety Technology in the News."
