The Michigan State Police Vehicle Test Team presents the results of the 2018 Model Year Police Vehicle Evaluation, which tested 13 patrol vehicles and 7 police motorcycles.
The patrol vehicles tested were the Chevrolet Tahoe 5.3L RWD; Chevrolet Tahoe 5.3L 4WD; Dodge Charger 3.6L RWD; Dodge Charger 5.7L AWD; Dodge Charger 5.7L RWD; Ford Police Interceptor Sedan 3.5L EcoBoost AWD; Ford Police Interceptor Sedan 3.5L AWD; Ford Police Interceptor 2.0L Ecoboost FWD; Ford Police Responder Hybrid Sedan; Ford Police Interceptor Utility 3.5L EcoBoost AWD; Ford Police Interceptor Utility 3.7L AWD; and Ford F-150 Police Responder EcoBoost 3.5L. The motorcycles tested were the Harley-Davidson FLHP; Harley-Davidson FLHP Stage II; Harley-Davidson FLHTP Stage I; Harley-Davidson FLHTP Stage IV; Yamaha FJR1300; and Zero DSRP. Police package vehicle photographs and descriptions are provided. Patrol vehicles were tested for vehicle dynamics, acceleration and top speed, brakes, ergonomics and communications, and fuel economy. Motorcycles were tested for dynamics, acceleration and top speed, and brakes. The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and the Standards of Testing Program are described.
