Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $600,000)
This interagency agreement is established under the 2020 Memorandum of Understanding Between the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Justice for Identifying and Supporting Forensic Science Relevant Research and Education Activities. Under this agreement, NIJ provides funding for co-sponsorship of Phase II of the Center for Advanced Research in Forensic Science (CARFS). NIJ and NSF will equally support the administrative costs of this NSF Industry-University Cooperation Research Center (IUCRC). This is a continuation of the co-sponsor relationship that NIJ and NSF have maintained since the establishment of CARFS. NSF anticipates making three awards in FY 2023 to the CARFS Phase II sites:
- Florida International University (Proposal ID 2310951) *lead site*.
- Sam Houston State University (Proposal ID 2311009).
- Texas A&M AgriLife Research (Proposal ID 2310941).
Prior funding for this activity was awarded in fiscal years 2014 and 2021.
