Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $499,715)
This project will facilitate multiple practitioner-led randomized controlled trials and related research in correctional facilities. Specifically, BetaHub will work with NIJ and DOJ leadership to obtain access to BOP facilities, advance the concept of practitioner-led randomized controlled trials and related research, solicit ideas for research questions, and work with BOP staff to implement randomized controlled trials and related research on priority programs and innovations, operations, and environments. BetaHub will also explore implementation of RCTs and related research in state and local facilities. Further, this project will include and expand on BetaHubs existing work facilitating RCTs in law enforcement agencies with NIJ LEADS Scholars leading the projects, supporting at least five RCTs per year through LEADS.
Finally, this project will include the production of a promising practices guide for implementing practitioner-led research in criminal justice agencies.
This project contains a research and/or development component, as defined in applicable law, and complies with Part 200 Uniform Requirements - 2 CFR 200.210(a)(14).
