The goals of this project are to improve the quality and timeliness of forensic science and medical legal death investigation services provided by the State of Alaska Department of Public Safety's Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory (SCDL) and State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services State Medical Examiners Office (SMEO) to Alaska's law enforcement agencies and to eliminate or drastically reduce backlogs in the analysis of forensic evidence. This will be achieved through funding overtime, providing scientific staff with training and maintaining laboratory accreditations.
