Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $855,000)

MUFSC proposes to achieve three major goals for this project. First, maintain and provide support a fully functional digital forensics laboratory in conjunction with the West Virginia State Police. This will be achieved by providing funding for equipment and supplies for this laboratory. Additionally, MUFSC will provide continued funding for both full-time and part-time digital forensic personnel to assist law enforcement working in this digital forensics laboratory. Secondly, funding will be utilized to ensure law enforcement personnel are adequately trained in the digital forensics discipline. Finally, timely evaluation of relevant digital forensic issues will be conducted on commercially available devices (e.g. GPS devices) and hardware/software that may be used in the commission of a crime as they come onto the consumer market. nca/ncf
