Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $452,050)
This project will study a little recognized aspect of latent print analysis, the determination of whether or not a latent print offers suitable data for identification of the source. This analytic task exists both within and without the examination proper. A natural and important determination that is made during Analysis1 is whether the impression presents sufficient detail to accomplish an individualization, should a clear source impression (the "record print") be available.
