Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $499,284)
This proposal has two main goals. The first is to review 267 cold case homicides from 1970 - 1984 to determine whether DNA analysis of biological evidence could help to solve the cold case. Detectives will identify, locate and view items of evidence and submit laboratory requests for DNA testing. The second main goal is to retain one full-time contract Forensic Biologist and one DNA analyst in the Crime Laboratory to complete DNA (STR and Y-STR) analysis of 75 cold case homicides, upload eligible DNA profiles to CODIS, and report CODIS hits to investigators.
