Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $495,031)
The goal of this work is to design, build, and test an integrated microfluidic controlled microarray test for single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) typing. Akonni previously demonstrated the feasibility of a gel drop microarray platform as a complete solution for forensic SNP-typing applications. Sample preparation, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and the microarray were packaged into prototype flow-through microfluidic modules for Y-chromosome SNP determination. The current work will focus on: 1) refining protocols and assay chemistries and 2) packaging components and reagents into an integrated system for automated, sample-to-answer results.
