Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $329,474)
The purpose of these funds will be used for the Inglewood Police Department to establish and operate the Inglewood Cold Case Unit (ICCU). The Unit will be staffed by two (2) retired Police Detectives, and will operate within the Department's existing Detective Bureau and Homicide Section. The ICCU staff will conduct comprehensive reviews of unsolved Inglewood murder case files in determining the existence of potential DNA evidence. This budget will cover the training and salary of qualified personnel, overtime expenses for necessary follow-up investigations, computer equipment and a contractual agreement with an accredited forensic laboratory for DNA related work.
