Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $49,774)

This project will evaluate the use of chiral mobile-phase additives (CMAs) in Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) as an alternative method of enantiomer determination. The objective of this proposal is to develop an inexpensive and simple method for enantiomer determinations as an alternative to using mixed crystal test methods or more expensive instrumental methods. This technique will make the analysis of stereoisomers easier and will thus reduce the analysis time, allowing for backlog to be addressed. Utilizing TLC will also reduce the burden of instrumental analysis so that instruments can be dedicated to other drug analyses.
