Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $296,656)
This research project involves a state system-wide and comprehensive examination of the processing, treatment and subsequent recidivism of sex offenders incarcerated or detained in the mental health and criminal justice systems. The four main objectives of this proposal are (1) to provide a thorough description of the offender population; (2) to examine which sex offenders get selected for specialized sex offender treatment services; (3) to examine the effectiveness of these sex offender treatment services and (4) determine which sex offenders ultimately get selected for commitment under the state's Sexually Violent Predator legislation. All four of these objectives will be evaluated as they relate to sexual recidivism.
