Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $380,254)
International Biometric Group (IBG) and the Crime Scene Services Section of the Massachusetts State Police (MSP-CSSS) propose to undertake a 6-month Phase II research initiative, continuing current Phase I efforts in automated identification based on Level III friction ridge. Phase II substantially expands the scope and depth of our analysis and provides for development of a MATLAB- and C++ based implementation to support ongoing Level III-oriented research and development in justice applications. Phase II objectives are to (1) refine Level III extraction, encoding, and comparison techniques through large-scale processing of data collected in Phase I and (2) develop automated Level III matching software on MATLAB and C++ platforms. The full live-scan and card-scan dataset collected in Phase I will be utilized, greatly expanding the scope of the research.
