Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $1,400,000)

The primary objective of this award will be to conduct STR and mtDNA testing on unidentified human remains (UHRs), family reference and direct reference samples with the DNA results entered into CODIS. In addition, UHRs will have anthropological and dental examinations when required. A minimum of 600 UHR and 2,500 family reference samples will be analyzed over this grant period. Funds will also be used to field test new DNA technologies for identification. All services are provided at no charge to submitting agencies.
