Encrypted Disk Drive Forensic Tools for Law Enforcement

This project will conduct the verification and validation of the LEAP software so as to ensure that it meets the needs of Law Enforcement. Hard drive encryption is now commonly available, being sold on computers even from big box stores, and can prevent LE acquisition of digital evidence from these machines. A tool (called LEAP) was developed by our team to assist Law Enforcement. This tool analyzes an operating machine and assists the first responder in determining if encryption is present and if so, assists in acquiring critical files for evidence. The need for verification and validation of this software is clear for this to be used in court cases.
